| I feel like i haven't written in ages. I was taking to James the other day about the movie gnomeo and juliet. and how if i was an English teacher i would tOTALLY use this as an assignment to compare the classical story of romeo and juliet to the remake, and then i go on and on about what I would write in my essay... and WHat does he say in response/?? Do you want me to give you hw?? ugh.. not the point of my conversation, but it's still funny how different we think.
ANYWAY- my reason for writing is to talk about Donations.
So in the mail we regularly get these really ugly colored papers indicating that there's going to be a truck coming back to pick up any donations we might want to give up for these so and so thrift stores that support feeding the hungry, or cancer, or etc.. SO normally we use these opportunities to give up any of our things in the house that we just have outgrown, or just don't want anymore, PLUS we get a tax deduction. Why not collect things we just aren't using anymore and give them to others who will use them for a good cause?? We're doing something good...Can't see a downside.
WELL turns out b/c we live on a street that is running parallel to a main road, the truck doesn't turn into our complex road to pick up our donatables. So time after time we try to 'donate' out stuff, and all we end up doing is moving all the things back into our garage. So inspiration hits me and I think why not just put all the stuff out on to the main road. The truck can't miss it.
Seeing as how many times we've tried to donate, needless to say our pile had gotten quite large, and it's a lot of work just to move it out on the street.
The next day... success!! all the stuff we put out on the street was picked up!
Now whenever James and I have anything to donate to these donation trucks we just put it out on the road, clearly marked with the ugly paper indicating what's to be picked up. HOWEVER James and I discovered there's a HUGE downside. Random people walking down the street sift through the pile! All the boxes and bags we put soo much work into folding, packing, organizing neatly so it doesn't get damaged during transport, just get torn open and everything gets tossed upside down and left in a huge pile looking like garbage. NOt only that, but people take the things for themselves! The electronics is of course the first to go, but the worse to clean up is the clothes, and things people break on accident by "sifting" through.
Now I'll be honest, It kind of feels like I'm being violated. I imagine it's along the same lines of how a person feels when they've been robbed. ( definitely not to that extent, but the anger and feeling that someone has just gone through your life, it's just unsettling)
It bothers James waay more than it does me, b/c the same way i looked at someone stealing my stuff...I think "they probably just needed it more than I did" , but to James he feels wronged, and feels like he needs to defend his castle, or stomp out the wrong doers... b/c they are stealing from us. I just remind him.. hey we don't know how their life is... just let it go. The stuff is gone, and besides it's stuff we didn't need or want anymore anyway. (to be honest, it still annoyed me that those going through our stuff couldn't do it neatly. ) Needless to say the next time we put things out, I still just couldn't help spying on our stuff to see who and what these "thieves stealing from the poor" looked like.
WELL here are the results: ( For some reason the truck didn't come by either so we had to collect everything back into our garage)
In the morning we put out 3paper bags, and 4 boxes filled with junk by the time James came home, and we realize that the truck just isn't going to pick up today, we have 1 bag and 2 boxes left.
People who i saw take things - gardener- sifted through but didn't take anything 1 teenager and 1 little girl - took two bags two moms and their kids- took two plastic bags filled with things ( they just dumped out the stuff that I originally packed in the bags, and filled it with stuff they wanted or needed) I stopped watching by 2, but apparently others came b/c I told James all the stuff i saw that was still left after the moms came by.... but he said all those things were gone when he collected the boxes.
Well what have i learned?? That the joy on that little girls face when the teenager said it was ok for her to keep the "new" toys, is worth my trouble, and it's ok for me to let those "things" go. It's just junk, but to someone else it means a lot. I told James about the little girl, and the two moms that I saw, and all his anger and annoyance at these people going through our donations just faded away. We thought these people were stealing, but in actuality with the economy the way it is..circumstances have changed, and these people were willing to go though donations on a public street for all to see.. to get some hand me down clothes and toys.. or whatever... lesson learned... i need to be more compassionate.
Times are tough, especially now that I've stopped working, and we've got Jethro, but it could be worse.. and for many others... it is...

| Jethro is my son. He's new. I love him very much. He started smirking/smiling recently. It's really cute. Today While James was changing his diaper, he peed....right into James' Motorcycle helmet. hahaha he has good aim. i was not there and only saw the end result. but from my end it sounded like this..... quiet... then.. AHHHHHH my motorcycle helmet!!! hahahhahahahahaa I love my son. | | |
| Went to Costco to buy toilet paper and while walking around and trying the samples.... one of them was for sour dough bread. Smeared on the bread was butter. As James attempts to hand me a piece of bread I send an electric shock through my fingers into James. ( ToTALLY unintentional of course ) but James freaks out and plants a hand full of butter smeared sour dough bread onto my left boob which then falls to the floor. Sigh I was upset b/c i didn't get to eat my bread... but I guess it works out.. I really shouldn't be eating that kind of bread...or fat... and In my mind it would be a really funny thing to see on TV. so to conclude: James smeared my boob with Costco Butter | | |
| Today I parked my car on the street, and a lady came out of her house to ask me if I could move my car. I said no. I was already parked under the shade. I only planned on staying an hour, AND I was already starting to unload my things! I'm preganant, and I don't mean it's should make a gigantic difference, but seriously it should count for something. Anyway I proceed to tell the lady, but I'm already parked. She says well can you move the car like 5 feet? I tell her " No I parked here because of the shade." She then says well there's a little shade behind, can you move the car back like 5 feet. AGain I say "no, I'm already parked. It's hot, and I'm already unloading my juice" She says well I have a friend who's coming, and it's easier to unload the stroller. I say.. well then your friend can park in that spot. I'm not going to move. They are still in the car. This is ridiculous. It's 5 feet away. Your friend can walk 5 feet. GEEZ... people are annoying | | |
